Parshas Noach Summary

Hashem wanted to bring a mabul on the world because the people were not acting the way they should. Noach built a teiva and it took him a long time to build. Hashem wanted the people to ask Noach why he was building it so that they’ll do teshuva, but instead the people just laughed at Noach. From this we learn that we should always stand up and do the right thing even if it’s not so popular, just like Noach did! We learned what was on each of the Teiva's 3 floors, how many animals of each kind went into the teiva, and that the mabul lasted for 40 days.

We learned about how Noach sent out the dove to see if the world was dry enough to come out of the teiva. Hashem sent a rainbow as a sign that He will never destroy the world again with a mabul. At the end of the parsha, we heard about the Dor Haflaga that tried to fight Hashem and how Hashem punished them by making them speak different languages so they couldn’t understand each other anymore.

Parsha Craft

We crafted an Ark. We decorated our own teiva with garbage, animals and people.  On the bottom floor, we put cut up paper towel. The middle floor had animal stickers. The top floor, we drew 8 people. Noach, Naama, Shem, Cham, Yafes and their wives. We drew a rainbow over the teiva to show that Hashem will never bring a mabul again.

Parsha Drawing Journal

parshas noach drawing journal
Every week, we draw a picture of the parsha (I always did it before shabbos party after reviewing the parsha of the week) and send it home at the end of the Chumash. I love that the children get to tell the story of the parsha in their own words. It is remarkable to see how much their handwriting and drawing skills improve from the beginning to the end of the book.

Parshas Noach activities

  • We played a math counting game. We had to count the animals on the number wheel and clip the correct clothespin onto it.
  • We learned the concepts “sink” and “float” in connection with the fact that the teiva floated in the water and did not sink. We took different objects and guessed what would happen to them, and then tested it out.
  • We built an Ark with magnatiles and wooden blocks.
