Story of Rabbi Akiva We heard the story of Rabbi Akiva. How he didn’t even know the alef beis when he  was 40 years old. His wife, Rochel, encouraged him to learn Torah. One day he saw a rock with a hole in it from constant water dripping on it. He said "if a rock is so hard, and water so soft, but from constant dripping it can create a hole in the rock, then my brain, too, can absorb Torah if I try. It’s never too late to start learning Torah! Lag Ba'omer and Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai We learned about Lag Ba’omer. We heard the story of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. Download our Tazria coloring pages here .   Parshas Tazriah - Metzorah Summary We learned in this week’s parsha that we need to give a baby boy a bris when he is 8 days old. We acted out a bris. Each child had a different job and we had kvatterin, sandek, sandek me’umad, mohel and the baby's parents. We had a chair for Eliyahu Hanavi and our seudas mitzvah was lunch! We learned about the karbanos a woman brings when she has a baby. She brings a sheep and a bird, unless she doesn’t have money to afford a lamb. Then she brings 2 birds. We learned about tzara'as. A person gets tzara'as because he spoke lashon hara. Clothing and houses can also get tzara'as as a warning that if they don’t do teshuva, they may get tzara'as . The Rebbe says that a kohen was the one to make them pure, because a kohen symbolizes ahavas yisrael. The bracha by birchas kohanim ends off with באהבה - b

Decorate your own Matzah / Afikoman Bag

Image
Decorate your own Matzah/Afikoman bag The kids will love having their own Matzah/Afikoman bag to use during the Passover Seder and throughout Passover. These bags are easy to decorate and look pretty. They are also practical as the zipper will keep the Matzah crumbs from falling out! Practical is always a plus. It's also very easy to clean. Materials needed:  - Clear plastic zip bags (these are called makeup bags or pencil cases)  - puff paint  - smocks (puff paint is NOT washable!) I gave each child a bag and had them decorate it however they liked. I wrote the word Matzah in Hebrew on an index card and they were able to write it on their bag. They can draw Matzos and a kiddush cup or whatever they'd like. Please ensure their sleeves are pulled up and they're wearing smocks that protect all their clothing. Puff paint is NOT washable! Careful adult supervision is very important for this activity. Amazon affiliate links

Wooden Seder Plate Craft for the Pesach Seder Materials needed: - Large wooden Circle (I used 6.5", but you can use bigger so it will be less crowded) - 6 small wooden circles - Glue - Markers - A printout of a picture of the seder plate for the kids to use as a visual as they draw their own We created this wooden seder plate. I purchased these items from Michael's and Dollar Tree. I had the kids draw each of the 6 items on each wooden circle. I wrote the names of each item with a permanent marker. We then glued the 6 circles onto the larger one. I used the little appetizer bowls from Dollar Tree on the Seder plate to put the items in. Here are some links to the supplies mentioned. These circles are larger, so check the size of the large and small before ordering to make sure they'll fit. Amazon affiliate links
