Mishpatim Parsha Summary and activities

This week's parsha has many laws. We focused on kosher, not telling a lie and returning a lost object.

  • We learned about Kosher. In parshas mishpatim, we learn that we’re not allowed to mix meat and milk. We spoke about kosher symbols that make food kosher and then we talked about what foods are meat, dairy or parve.

  • We sorted a basket of food into the proper categories.

  • We made meat and dairy placemats. We learned how to properly set a table, so we drew the place settings on our placemat and then drew our favorite meat and dairy foods on the plates of each placemat.
  •  We turned over our dramatic play area into a Kosher Supermarket!
  • We learned about nutrition. We read the book, “The Little Seed” and spoke about different parts of a plant and how the roots are so important, how it grows and how to care for a plant. We did a book review on the Seed book.
  • We spoke about healthy eating habits. Morah showed us on a mannequin how the windpipe and esophagus work and why we shouldn’t talk when we eat. We also learned what foods are healthy and which are not.
  • We cut out different foods and graphed them into healthy and not-healthy categories.

Parshas Mishpatim Craft

We made meat and dairy / milchig and fleishig placemats.

You can download this affordable printable. Click here to download these adorable placemats.
They are available in Hebrew, English and Yiddish. All the languages are included in the file.

You can have the students color or paint the placemats and then laminate them so they will be waterproof.

Here's another placemat option:
We talked about how to properly set a table and practiced it.
I gave them a piece of paper. They drew a plate, fork, spoon and knife. Then they drew their favorite fleishig (meat) foods on the place. Some kids were able to write the word fleishig on it.
I laminated them and sent them home.
(We made dairy placemats for shavuot.)
