Brazil - Part 1 Animals

Be sure to check out my  Pinterest  board with these and more ideas. We started out the week with looking at the map and traveling to Brazil. We stamped our passport with a Brazil stamp and took a look at the Capitol on Google Maps. We learned about several animals this week and we also got to cook several authentic Brazilian foods.  The animals we explored this week are: Armadillo Anteater Jaguar Golden Lion Tamarin Next week we will delve into the Amazon Rainforest and create our own diorama.  FOOD: My favorite Brazilian food we made was Coxinha. They were absolutely delicious.  I loosely followed this recipe. For the dough I used: 2 cups flour, 2 cups chicken broth and 1 tbsp of margarine. I also added some paprika to the filling. Australia Part 2 - People, Places and Food

See  this post  for the passport and stamps that we used. Be sure to check out my  Pinterest  board with these and more ideas. This week we continued learning about Australia. We focused on places, people, food and language.  We learned about the Great Barrier Reef. The coral, anemones and the various fish and plants that live there. We learned about Ayers Rock also knows as Uluru and saw photos of how it looks red at sunset. We saw photos of the Sydney Opera House and recreated it. We spoke about the Aboriginal Australian people. We talked about how they lived, farmed and their art.  Here is a link  to a page with information about the Indigenous Australians. Parshas Chayei Sara

We learned all about camels, how much water they drink. We learned about the 3 miracles of Sara's tent and focused on Challah. To bring out the point of how much work it was for Rivka to gather enough water for 10 camels, I had students come up and spoon water out of a bucket into a small "trough". They saw how long it took and I said, can you imagine how much work it was for Rivka to feed all these camels?!! Parshas Chayei Sara Crafts We made camel handprints and use a paintbrush to create the humps. When it was dry, we added a face, tail and trough with marker. We also focused on the number 10 and sequenced camels from 1-10. We created Sarah's tent. They traced a triangle and cut it out. placed "clouds" made of cotton balls on the tent. The candles are made of pipe c
