We really enjoyed learning about Denmark. We focused mostly on Windmills and Wind Turbines. We learned about wind energy and did some STEM activities to explore it. We learned some phrases in Danish and we read the book The Ugly Duckling. The author, Hans Christian Anderson is from Denmark and there are statues and a museum of him in Denmark. We also learned the queen of Denmark is Margrethe II. The popular mode of transportation is cycling. There are many bicycles in Denmark.
FOOD:
I made Frikadeller (Danish meatballs) following this recipe. I used ground beef instead of pork. It was really good, and my family loved it.
PLACES:
- Faroe Islands - A beautiful island with gorgeous views. There are lots of sheep and houses with grass roofs. I linked a travel vlog video below.
- Lego House - Check out the videos linked below to see a tour.
- Frederiksborg Castle
ART:
- Here's a tutorial on how to draw a windmill
- Our own depiction of the Ugly Duckling
We followed this link to make pinwheels "wind turbines". We used a blow dryer to simulate wind and graphed how many moved each time. We had a lot of fun with this activity.
We built a wind car and brought it outside and watched it drive with the wind. We loved this and it was fun to figure out which way to turn it to get the wind to move it.
- Wind Energy Science Experiment
We chose our own items to test with wind from a blow dryer.
